Year

What a busy
term it has been. All year 5 students are to be congratulated on their great
efforts in the NAPLAN tests that were held earlier this term.
In class we
have been writing poetry and explanations. We have completed our unit of work on
Antarctica and will be learning about the weather in the last 4 weeks of the
term. Milo sport on Wednesday morning has been very popular, with students
always enjoying themselves. Starting from next week we will begin practicing for
the Athletics carnival. Congratulations to Peyton, Georgia and Tamara for making
it to the Public Speaking finals. In class we also enjoyed great speeches from
Kylie, Casey and Ethan.
As the term
progresses children loose pencil case items, Please make sure your child has the
correct equipment so they are organized and ready to work.
Thank you to
the parents and Grandparents who were able to visit our room during Education
Week we enjoyed having you along.
Reading Groups
are still running on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10.30am till recess if
you are available to listen to a group read. Thank you to all the helpers we
have had fun this term.

writing discussions and this week we will be finishing our final piece on
polyurethane swimming suits. In HSIE we have been learning about different

about Light and Animation in Week 7.
Some students
would love the opportunity to be an Egyptian Pharaoh in the class for a day!Homework is due
every Friday, some people have been very “forgetful” lately. A reminder from
home always helps.Year 5 had a
fantastic visit to Muswellbrook High School last week. It was very pleasing to
hear their staff commenting on the participation level and excellent behaviour
of the class. Great work !
We have enjoyed
doing some dance this term and the class did a great job of performing the
“Cha Cha Slide” at
the school assembly in Week 2.
This week is Book
Week and there will be a special assembly on Thursday. We have been reading
“Polar Boy” by Sandy Fussell and it is a great book.
Miss Dobbins in
visiting again this term and will be helping with maths each Wednesday for the
next 4 weeks. Miss Dobbins will also complete two weeks of “prac” teaching next
term.
This week we will
be conducting our in-class Spelling Bee ready for the school spell off next
Tuesday.
For those of you
that have not yet heard the news I am expecting a baby late January. As long as
there are no complications I will continue to teach the class until the end of
the year.
Congratulations to
everyone for their participation at the school and zone athletics carnival. The
class will be doing touch football with Miss Sealey each Friday for the
remainder of the term.

Term 3
Week

What a year it has
been and we still have so much on between now and the end of the term.
In class we have
been learning about Australia’s connection to the rest of the world and what
products Australia imports and exports. We are currently writing procedures
that use a variety of verbs and adverbs. In maths we have been revising 2 digit
by 2 digit multiplication.
In preparation for
the Year 6 farewell, we have been learning bush Dances which has proved to be a
very popular activity.
It isn’t long now
until our Sydney Excursion and we will be completing work in week 5 to prepare
us for the placed we will be visiting.
In Weeks 7 and 8
Miss Melissa Dobbins will be completing the final two weeks of her teaching
practicum and we are looking forward to writing reviews on our Sydney excursion
and completing a Science unit with her. In Week 7 the process for selection of
school captains will commence. This is an exciting time for Year 5 as they are
realizing next year will be their final year.
This week all
students must be able to recite their times tables from 2x to 12x. There is a
reward for those who can complete this challenge!
Thank you so very
much to all the parents and grandparents who assist with Reading each week.
Teaching Year 5 for the last 18 months has been wonderful and I am sure they
will achieve fantastic things in Year
6.
